Koto sits on a quiet, residential street in Antwerp's beloved 't Zuid district — the calm side of a neighbourhood that happens to be the city's cultural and culinary heart. Step out of the gate and you are minutes from some of Antwerp's finest restaurants and wine bars, the fashion and design shopping streets, and the museum quarter that gives the area its name.
Guests tell us the same thing again and again: they came for the garden and the pool, and fell for the location. Everything worth seeing is walkable, cyclable, or one short tram ride away — and you can still come home to birdsong, a heated pool and free parking.
On your doorstep
Five reasons our guests never quite get around to leaving 't Zuid.
The red sandstone tower on the old docks, a ten-minute bike ride along the Scheldt. The rooftop panorama is free and worth the lift alone; inside, ten floors tell the story of the city and its port. Go late afternoon for the light.
Cross the Scheldt on foot through the art-deco Sint-Annatunnel — a wooden escalator and a tile-lined walk under the river — and you surface at Sint-Anneke, where a sandy river beach and the best skyline view of Antwerp wait. A perfect summer afternoon.
This is why the district is called the museum quarter. FOMU for photography, M HKA for contemporary art, and the gloriously restored KMSKA for the old masters — all within an easy walk of each other and of Koto. Pick one, or make a day of all three.
't Zuid punches well above its weight for its size: neighbourhood bistros, special-occasion tables and intimate wine bars where the list is longer than the menu. Ask us at breakfast — we keep a running list of favourites and are always happy to book you in.
Antwerp is a fashion capital, and the boutiques start here. Wander Nationalestraat and the surrounding lanes for independent designers and concept stores, or head for the Meir for the big names. Most of it is a relaxed stroll from the front door.
The flip side of a central address: Koto's large tropical garden, heated outdoor pool and kids' treehouse make coming back the best part of the day. Park the car for free, charge the Tesla, and let the city wait until tomorrow.
